Kotanji is a unique weaving pattern followed by Elampillai weavers. There will be a separation in border design in the loom and then it is incorporated with the body . With this method of weaving, there will be a clear cut separation on the border and the body of the Saree. In Kotanji usually the borders on both sides will be of the same size
